In 2026, Vietnam’s e-visa remains one of the most practical entry options for foreign tourists, investors, and professionals traveling to the country. The online format gives applicants greater control over timing, reduces the need for in-person paperwork, and fits well with the fast-moving needs of international travel and business.

According to the information currently published on the Vietnam Immigration Department’s electronic visa system, foreigners can now apply for an e-visa online without the nationality restrictions that once applied. This has made Vietnam’s visa policy far more accessible for both leisure visitors and short-term business travelers.

One practical update applicants should note is that, from November 11, 2024, Vietnam’s electronic visa portal has been operating on two official domains: evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn. Using the correct government website matters, especially at a time when many travelers can easily be confused by unofficial intermediary pages.

At present, a Vietnam e-visa can be issued for up to 90 days and may be granted as either single entry or multiple entry. That flexibility is particularly useful for travelers who need to combine meetings, market visits, regional trips, or several entries into Vietnam within a single travel window.

The core eligibility requirements remain straightforward but important. Applicants must be outside Vietnam at the time of filing, hold a valid passport, and must not fall into cases where entry is suspended or refused under Vietnamese law. These are basic conditions, yet they are often overlooked when documents are prepared in haste.

The application process is fully online. Applicants complete the form in English, upload a portrait photo and the passport biodata page, receive an electronic dossier code, pay the visa fee, and track the result on the system. Under the published administrative guidance, the normal processing time is within three working days after the complete application and fee are received.

The current government fee is US$25 for a single-entry e-visa and US$50 for a multiple-entry e-visa. The fee is paid electronically and is non-refundable if the application is refused. That is why careful review of the applicant’s full name, passport number, date of birth, photo, and intended port of entry is essential before submission.

Another key point is that the e-visa is valid only if the holder enters and exits through the border gates designated by the Government. The current list includes 33 eligible ports: 8 international airports, 16 land border gates, and 9 seaports. Choosing the wrong port on the application is a common real-world mistake that can create problems at check-in or on arrival.

In practice, many delayed or repeated filings are caused not by difficult policy rules, but by simple mistakes such as a blurred passport image, mismatched personal details, the wrong entry option, or failure to keep track of the application code and email notices. Once approved, travelers should save the e-visa PDF and carry a printed copy together with the passport for convenience.

For foreigners entering Vietnam to work, an e-visa can be a convenient initial entry document, but it does not replace a work permit or a temporary residence card where those documents are legally required for longer-term employment and stay.
