Asiana to Leave Star Alliance on December 16: Key Mileage and Elite-Benefit Deadlines

Asiana Airlines will officially leave Star Alliance at 23:59 Korea Standard Time on December 16, 2026, immediately before its integration into Korean Air. The change directly affects travelers who use Asiana Club to earn miles on Star Alliance partners or receive alliance-wide elite benefits.

For Star Alliance partner flights departing on or before October 15, 2026, travelers can still enter an Asiana Club number during booking, ticketing or check-in for normal mileage credit. If miles from those flights do not post automatically, a missing-mileage claim must be submitted by October 31.

For partner flights from October 16 through December 16, automatic accrual through booking or check-in will no longer be available. Members will need to make a separate request after completing the flight, and Asiana says further details on that process will be announced later. Star Alliance mileage accrual to Asiana Club ends on December 16.

Star Alliance elite benefits for eligible Asiana Club members, including lounge access, priority check-in and extra baggage, remain valid for flights departing on or before December 16. Award tickets and mileage upgrades on partner airlines follow carrier-specific deadlines, however, so travelers should check the relevant partner rules before issuing or changing an award booking.

Asiana says the alliance departure is tied to its merger with Korean Air, which belongs to SkyTeam. After integration, customers will move into the combined carrier’s new loyalty and alliance framework. Travelers with large mileage balances or year-end itineraries should review their account, existing award tickets and actual flight dates now to avoid missing important transition deadlines.
