ICAO introduces stricter environmental standards for new aircraft
ICAO has formally adopted stricter environmental standards for aircraft. The organization says the standards took effect on 3 August 2026 and will apply globally from 1 January 2027.
This is a technical regulatory change, so passengers should not expect an immediate shift in fares or schedules. Its main impact is likely to be seen over time in aircraft design, engine technology and certification processes. When booking, travellers should still focus on flight times, refund conditions and baggage rules; the new standards are a longer-term signal of aviation’s move to reduce its environmental impact.
