ICAO strengthens support for African aviation after AFI Aviation Week in Cairo

ICAO’s AFI Aviation Week, held in Cairo from 27 July 2026, reviewed aviation performance across the Africa-Indian Ocean region and identified implementation priorities. The discussion focused on operating capability, safety, connectivity and helping States put international standards into practice.

For travellers, this is an infrastructure and governance development rather than an immediate timetable change. Yet coordinated work to strengthen aviation capacity can matter over time for route networks, reliability and access to African destinations. Passengers on complex regional itineraries should still allow sensible connection time and recheck each country’s entry requirements.
