Vietjet Announces Nonstop Ho Chi Minh City–Western Sydney Service from January 2027

Vietjet is expanding its Australian footprint with a new nonstop service linking Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), the Sydney region’s new international gateway. Vietjet and WSI exchanged a cooperation memorandum in Sydney on August 10, 2026, during a Vietnam–Australia technology and innovation forum.

According to Vietjet’s announced schedule, the route is set to begin on January 9, 2027 with two round trips per week. Flights from Ho Chi Minh City are planned for Tuesday and Saturday evenings, while return services from Western Sydney are scheduled for Wednesdays and Sundays, creating a new direct option between southern Vietnam and western Sydney.

Western Sydney International is being developed as a 24-hour aviation gateway for the broader Sydney region. It is Australia’s first major greenfield international airport project in more than 50 years and is expected to support not only passenger travel but also logistics, trade, technology and industrial growth across Western Sydney.

The route is particularly relevant to Australia’s Vietnamese community. Western Sydney International says more than 70,000 people of Vietnamese heritage live in the region, representing more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population. That creates a strong base of visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic in addition to tourism and business demand.

Vietjet already connects Vietnam with major Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Adding Western Sydney gives the airline another access point into the market and may also improve connecting options for travelers moving between Vietnam and other Asia-Pacific destinations.

For passengers, the key practical point is that Western Sydney International is a different airport from the existing Sydney Airport. Travelers booking for 2027 should carefully check the airport shown on their ticket, ground-transfer time to central Sydney, baggage rules and the final operating schedule. As with any new airport and new route, timings may still be adjusted as operational plans are finalized.
