Vietnam Airlines Group Adds 60,000 Seats, Plans More Than 3,600 Flights for National Day Holiday

Vietnam Airlines Group is adding substantial capacity for Vietnam’s September 2 National Day holiday, a period expected to keep domestic travel demand elevated after the summer peak. The group, which includes Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO, will add about 60,000 seats, taking total holiday capacity across its network to nearly 725,000 seats.

With the extra capacity, the group expects to operate more than 3,600 flights, roughly 25% more than a year earlier. The additional aircraft time and seats will be concentrated on high-demand links from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to destinations such as Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Hue, Da Lat and Phu Quoc, where short-break and family-visit traffic typically rises sharply around the holiday.

Adding flights early gives travelers a wider choice of departure times and can ease pressure on routes that tend to sell out first. Even so, passengers who need to travel at the start or end of the holiday should consider booking early, because those peaks often see the fastest changes in availability and fare classes.

For the airline group, the expansion also requires careful fleet and crew planning at a time when operating costs, especially jet fuel, remain high. Increasing frequency is therefore not simply a matter of adding schedules; aircraft rotations, airport resources and turnaround performance must be balanced to reduce the risk of delays cascading through the day.

Passengers are encouraged to complete check-in before arriving at the airport through airline websites, mobile apps or self-service kiosks. Where supported, VNeID-based electronic identification can also streamline parts of the airport process. The extra capacity should improve choice during the holiday, but travelers should still allow more time than usual for security and boarding during the busiest periods.
