Vietnam Airlines Group to Operate More Than 3,600 Flights for National Day Holiday, Adding 60,000 Seats

Vietnam Airlines Group is significantly increasing capacity for Vietnam’s National Day holiday on September 2, 2026, as domestic travel demand remains strong after the summer peak. The group—comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO—plans to add around 60,000 seats, bringing total holiday capacity across its network to nearly 725,000 seats.

The additional capacity will support more than 3,600 flights during the peak period, around 25% more than a year earlier. Extra resources are being concentrated on high-demand routes linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with destinations including Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Hue, Da Lat and Phu Quoc.

Bookings on many domestic routes have been rising since early August as travelers combine short breaks with family visits. By adding seats ahead of the holiday, the airline group aims to give passengers a wider choice of departure times and reduce pressure on the most heavily booked flights before and after September 2.

The group is also adjusting its broader network. Vietnam Airlines is scheduled to begin nonstop Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo service on August 16, earlier than previously planned. On the domestic side, VASCO is expected to resume the Can Tho–Da Lat route on August 19 with one daily round trip operated by ATR 72 aircraft.

The capacity increase comes at a time when airline operating costs, particularly fuel expenses, remain elevated. Vietnam Airlines Group says it will continue optimizing aircraft and operational resources, focusing additional capacity on routes where demand is strongest rather than expanding indiscriminately.

Passengers traveling over the National Day period are advised to book early, recheck schedules before departure and complete check-in online through the website, mobile app or airport self-service kiosks whenever possible. At supported airports, biometric verification through the VNeID app can also help reduce time spent at security and boarding during the busy travel period.
