Vietnam Airlines Marks 35,000th Australia Flight After 35 Years of Service

Vietnam Airlines has marked 35 years of flying between Vietnam and Australia, reaching its 35,000th flight and carrying its 7.5 millionth passenger in the market. The milestones underline how Australia has developed into one of the national carrier’s most established and strategically important long-haul markets.

The airline currently operates about 25 weekly round trips linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s are used on the routes, giving Vietnam Airlines wide-body capacity and a more consistent long-haul cabin product for journeys that can span many hours.

Demand between the two countries has continued to rise in 2026. More than 809,000 passengers traveled in the Vietnam–Australia market during the first six months of the year, an increase of about 11.5% from the same period in 2025. Average load factors exceeded 83%, indicating resilient demand even as competition between carriers grows.

The routes serve far more than leisure traffic. Vietnamese communities in Australia, students, business travelers and people visiting relatives generate steady two-way demand. Frequent nonstop services also make it easier to connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to domestic destinations in Vietnam and onward points elsewhere in Asia.

Alongside the anniversary, Vietnam Airlines has been expanding commercial and tourism partnerships in Australia, including cooperation with Trip.com Group, RMIT University and Flight Centre Travel Group. With passenger volumes rising and aircraft flying relatively full, Australia is likely to remain a key market for future frequency, product and connecting-network decisions.
